Update to TF2LogAnalyzer

Coding, Games, Projects, Web developing

I recreated the TF2LogAnalyzer. It no longer tracks stats for individual users, but it tracks global weapon usage.

I removed whole authentication system and player profiles, now the system only shows the information that was the only part I actually used on the system, weapon usage statistics.

As now I don’t have to collect stats for users, I can collect stats for every user that is on single server. So I get around 50-300 kills to my logs every map. Previously I got only about 7-20 log events per map per user.

Client is now much easier to use, just add the path and you are submitting stats to the server. You can download the client here and stats are at the same place as previously, here.

Yet another update for Awesome Note!

Applications, Review, iPod touch/iPhone apps

Some time ago there came a update forĀ  the Awesome note iPhone app. Because I have this application and I have done couple posts about it, I decided that it is good to post about the update also. There is couple new features that I like lot. Example new way to change themes, read only notes and ability to add images to notes.

But the greatest thing is that they finally fixed the “password protected” folders. Because now they are really secure. It is no longer possible to delete folder to see content of passlocked folder. It is also possible to lock the whole application.

Update to Awesome Note

iPod touch/iPhone apps

I reviewed Awesome Note some time ago on this blog. Now creators of Awesome Note have released new version, so I think that it is good to do small update to the review.

  • Stars – nice way to organize good notes away from random notes
  • Undo/redo feature – this is built in on iPhone, but not a bad feature
  • Todo feature – Create todo lists and tasks with due dates.
  • Sort features – sort notes via date, stars, due date and so on.

Awesome note is even more awesome with this update. I am bit disappointed that they haven’t fix the security problem with “secure” folders… But it is great application anyway :) Just don’t store anything critical on it.

(and yes, I have send a bug report about the security)

I have recently updated this blog to work with Feedburner. This update should not affect to any subscribers. I redirected feeds to Feedburner with plugin. But if you see any problems, please send a comment.

I have also created Twitter bot that tweets every time I post new blog post. So if you don’t like to subscribe to regular RSS feed, you can subscribe to Twitter feed.

I have also updated right sidebar to show all cool feed icons.

Firefox 3.5 performance

Applications, Mac, Web developing

Performance of firefox with older releases haven’t been awesome. Couple of addons can easily take over 100megs of ram and browser become easily very unstable and slow. I did update on my macbook (PowerPC G4, 1.6 GHz single core CPU, 1.5G DDR2 ram MaxOS 10.4.11)

New firefox has also new logo

New firefox has also new logo

Before update with 3.0 I had 7 addons installed. With 2-3 tabs open firefox used 250megs of ram and cpu was 30-40. When my firefox was on heavy usage, it taked over 1500megs of ram and 100% of cpu… After update to 3.5 memory usage dropped to 90-100megs. Cpu dropped to 10-15%.

Then I installed 26 addons and opened 47 tabs (2 youtube videos and one <video>-tag, lots of heavy js/css sites.) Memory usage was just 226megs and cpu usage was at 50%. Firefox was little slow, but usable! It didn’t even try to freeze. After the test I closed all tabs expect one and memory usage dropped to 148megs and cpu usage is back at 10-15%!

Quick list:

  • Using many (over 15) addons won’t kill firefox instantly
  • Opening many tabs(over 20) won’t freeze kill firefox anymore
  • Memory usage have dropped 300%-500%
  • CPU usage is almost always under 50% on normal usage its under 20%
  • Acid3 test gives 92/100 points (ie8 gets about 20)
  • Firefox is my primary browser again

Biggest problem for me with firefox was the CPU/MEM usage while using lots of addons and now its fixed. I can install every cool addon I want and still use firefox without killing it! Now I just want that they fix the nvidia/linux canvas tag bug…
