Yesterday, I started free 10 day trial of popular mmorpg World of Warchart. After playing lots of muds, I try to find out if there is something new…
Trial installation download wasn’t very bigI got it up and running in 30mins. There was some problems with wine, because wine didn’t like the automatic background download of resource when playing. (Trial installer loads more stuff on background) I disabled it and found the login screen. Then is the time to create account. I closed wow…
…And started account creation. It was pretty easy and simple, but I don’t like that I had to give my card number just to play free trial… Otherwise the account creation is nice and easy.
First hours. In 2 hours I managed to get my dwarf to level 5. The game feel same as mud’s, but with graphics… But this is only my opinion with 2 hours of playing… I can’t say what is the end game like.
Technically, the game is great. Platinium-level wine compatibility and nice graphics.
Most people don’t know what are muds, and many who knows would never touch them. But I personally like muds(Multi User Dungeon) very much. Muds aren’t so big as biggest MMORPG, but on largest muds, there is enough content for everyone. Example on my favorite, Batmud, there is over 15000 rooms to explore. Also the fighting/experience systems are very advanced. Main problem for some people is that there is no graphics at all, just the game. But what you can expect for over 15 years old massive multiplayer game?
But here is list why muds are so great. (especially Batmud)
You can play them on any computer that can be connected to Internet
It is Multi User game!
Massive world
Nice story and interesting task (not just “go kill all and come back”)
Totally free, no “premium accounts”
Friendly community
So, if you like games like Nethack, ADOM etc, I will recommend you to try out Batmud. It is the best Mud, and there is also a nice Batclient, that makes playing easier for beginners.
